Project Description

Identity-Focused Consultant to Develop & Support Online Training for Candidates

NDTC is hiring four consultants to support NDTC in adapting our existing curriculum to acknowledge the experiences of candidates holding certain identities. To support these adaptations, each consultant should have in-depth knowledge of how to support the needs of candidates from one of these identity groups: women, Latinx or Hispanic, Black or African American, and LGBTQIA+. These four consultants will primarily be supporting NDTC in adapting our candidate-focused online trainings, though some work will support NDTC’s Staff Academy, which is a program designed to recruit, train, and connect new staff to paid career opportunities in Democratic politics across the country prioritizing leaders who identify as women, trans and non-binary, and people of color.

Identity-Focused Consultants

The consultants will:

  • Have knowledge and experience speaking to a wide range of campaign topics including, but not limited to: time management, fundraising, communications, field, trauma-informed care, perceptions around money based on identity, and self-care in a fast-paced working environment
  • Support development of on-demand online course material written in a voice that is inclusive of the identity group they are experienced working with
    • Collaborate with the NDTC team to identify the ways in which candidates holding the identity they are focused on may benefit from different or additional strategies than those suggested in the existing curriculum
    • Assist NDTC staff drafting written training materials, which may include scripts, worksheets, text lessons, and other materials, as needed
    • Discuss topic areas with NDTC staff to facilitate their creation of training materials
    • The consultant who is experienced in working with the Latinx or Hispanic community should be bilingual in Spanish to access oral and written materials in both languages (this role will NOT include translation)
  • Facilitate up to four interactive webinars that provide an opportunity for trainees to practice and further engage with the on-demand online trainings

Qualifications:

  • At least 1 cycle of experience on a candidate campaign and 3+ years of political or community organizing experience
  • Experience training others on campaign skills, community organizing, or other education/training experience
  • The ideal person for this role is NOT currently working for a campaign, nor are they open to joining a 2020 campaign full-time
  • You MUST be available for daytime calls with the NDTC team to collaborate and plan work
  • If you are applying to focus on the Latinx or Hispanic community, you should be bilingual in Spanish to access oral and written materials in both languages (this role will NOT include translation)

Time Expectations & Compensation: The contract will run September 20, 2019 – December 31, 2020. The time expectation will be approximately 25 hours/month during which time you will be compensated for an estimated $1,500/month.
