Indiana Democrats Get Trained - National Democratic Training Committee

NDTC’s first Build the Bench training of 2019 went off without a hitch (if you exclude the worst winter storm in the past five years bearing down on the Indianapolis area)! Indiana Democrats were unphased by the weather and more than 135 trainees came out and joined NDTC trainers and Indiana Democrats staffers for an inspiring day of learning and networking.

NDTC Partner Fairs Debut with Indiana Democrats

This training was also the debut of the NDTC Partner Fairs!

Jauwan Hall, our Former Deputy Political Director, has been diligently going through his (massive) rolodex to ask national and local organizations to join us at our trainings all over the country. This is a fantastic opportunity for future candidates to see how local groups and chapters of national groups can support them in their bids for office. Also, it’s an equally great chance for folks in various organizations to meet the people they help every day.

#NDTCtrained Alumnus Visit

NDTC was thrilled to have an NDTC alumnus, Chris Chyung, give the keynote address and inspire a roomful of Indiana Democrats! After being an attendee at the exact same training only a year before, Chris came back this year, having won his election by ONLY 82 VOTES, making him the youngest legislator in Indiana and the state’s first Asian American representative.

“These trainings are a springboard for people looking to take the next step; I know because I was in their shoes. The formula is simple: Be motivated, put the work in, and you can win.” -Rep. Chris Chyung

We Love the Indiana Democrats

The Indiana Democrats were great partners for this event. In addition, we were thrilled to have the Chair of the Indiana Democrats, John Zody, with us all day.

We love working with state partners because they are able to answer state-specific questions that arise from our trainings. For example, in this training a question arose about the rules about how to get on the ballot, specifically pertaining to gathering signatures. So, we loved being able to get her answers right away by sending her to someone from the state party!

“We were glad to partner with the National Democratic Training Committee last year, they were our first training last year, and they’re our first training this year, and we are glad to do that because, again, we think building the bench is very important if we are going to win statewide.” -John Zody, Chair of the Indiana Democrats

The Indiana Media Love The Indiana Dems

We were super grateful that the local media outlets in Indianapolis came out to cover the event. Especially given the in the difficult weather! Check it out!
