About the event
While LGBTQIA+ representation in elected office is at an all-time high, the LGBTQIA+ community is facing unprecedented hostility on and off the campaign trail. In particular, trans and nonbinary individuals continue to be the targets of hate and bigotry.
Right-wing rhetoric has threatened the livelihood of trans identities, drag queens, and anyone who is gender non-conforming. And it’s disgusting.
Pride started as a riot, led fearlessly by trans woman activist Marsha P. Johnson. Since then, it has undoubtedly become a celebration of what it means to be LGBTQIA+. So we’re bringing together a panel of transgender leaders and allies from throughout Democratic politics to discuss their experiences living out and proud.
With a focus on centering the lived experiences of trans and nonbinary individuals, this month’s NDTC Expert Q&A will cover the ins and outs of navigating the campaign landscape while transgender or nonbinary.
We’re excited to welcome our panelists to this discussion. Rep. Brianna Titone currently serves in the Colorado State Legislature, making her the state’s first transgender lawmaker. Alia Kapasi is the campaign manager for Danica Roem, the first openly transgender woman to both be elected and serve in any state legislature.
These incredible panelists will share challenges, triumphs, and lessons learned from the trail and in office. And like always, bring your own questions from your lived experience and get ready to share with a community of fellow campaigners, candidates, and leaders.
