Lived Experiences as Candidates
September 20, 2021
About the event
While campaigns share many similarities, your individual journey as a candidate will look very different depending on your background, race, culture, geography, and overall identity. Our Lived Experiences as Candidates panel gives you the opportunity to tap into the minds of leaders across a broad range of backgrounds and communities. They’ll share their insight, campaign experiences, and answer your questions..
This is part of NDTC’s Build Blue Week, and you can find more upcoming events here.
You’ll learn:
- How to navigate the different obstacles and opportunities faced by non-majority communities.
- The importance of representative leadership and the important role candidate diversity plays in our democracy.
- Resources candidates can turn to for support as they chart their path to office.
Come prepared with your questions for this interactive presentation and leave with the tools you need.

We will be using Zoom for this webinar, and please test out using Zoom prior to this meeting. We encourage downloading the app version (instead of viewing directly in your web browser) so that you can fully participate in any breakout groups.
Your Zoom link is visible once registered for this event on our website, and the Zoom link will be emailed as a reminder to you 30 minutes prior to the start of the training. Zoom will ask you to verify that you’re an authorized user. This is a security measure we’ve added – all you need to do is sign in to a free Zoom account (this is different from your traindemocrats.org account). For more information on how to set up your Zoom account, please click here.
NDTC will record this event: by attending, you give NDTC permission to take photographs and record videos including me at this event, and to use them for its internal and external purposes.
