About the event
In the United States, only 0.9% of elected leaders identify as Asian American & Pacific Islander (AAPI). Yet, the total number of AAPI folks in the U.S. is over six times this percentage and accounts as the fastest growing demographic in the country.
That’s why this May during AAPI Heritage Month, we’re hosting this special edition of our So You Want to Run for Office training geared towards prospective and early-stage AAPI candidates. In partnership with the Public Wise, the New American Leaders Action Fund, Asian American Power Network, and North Carolina Asian Americans Together, this training will celebrate Asian Americans in Democratic politics.
With a focus on the unique challenges and opportunities for AAPI candidates, our expert trainer will cover the ins and outs of making the decision to run and for what office. Whether you’re already gearing up to run or have maybe only considered it, this training is for you!
We invite folks who are AAPI and looking to make a change in their communities to attend!
You will learn the following in this training:
- Understand the steps necessary to run for office
- Explain best practices for choosing which office to run for
- Identify what support you’ll need from your team
- Prepare for sharing your decision to run with friends and family
Please note that each “So You Want to Run for Office?” training is limited capacity to increase opportunities for discussion and participation. If this session is full or doesn’t fit your schedule, you can find a list of upcoming sessions HERE.
