So You Want to Run for Office: Indigenous American Heritage Month
November 13, 2023
About the event
Special Indigenous American Heritage Month Event!
Join the National Democratic Training Committee on Monday, November 13th for a special So You Want to Run for Office celebrating Indigenous American Heritage Month.
The past few election cycles have seen historic strides in Native and Indigenous representation in elected office. Just last September, Congress welcomed Democrat and Alaska Native, Mary Petolta, to Congress alongside five other Indigenous leaders. On top of this, former Rep. Deb Haaland, a member of the Pueblo of Laguna, serves as President Biden’s Secretary of the Interior.
But these six Indigenous Congresspeople are just the beginning. That’s why we’re hosting this special edition of So You Want to Run for Office tailored towards the unique needs and challenges Indigenous candidates might face on the trail through Election Day.
Designed for prospective and early-stage candidates running for office, we will walk you through the ins and outs of making the decision to run for office and which office to run for.
You will learn the following in this training:
- Understand the steps necessary to run for office
- Explain best practices for choosing which office to run for
- Identify what support you’ll need from your team
- Prepare for sharing your decision to run with friends and family
Please note that each “So You Want to Run for Office?” training is limited capacity to increase opportunities for discussion and participation. If this session is full or doesn’t fit your schedule, you can find a list of upcoming sessions HERE.
