Jemila Mitchell

Staff Academy Associate Director

Jemila Mitchell is a former middle school mathematics educator whose dedication to education equity drove her to become involved in politics. As a first-generation American with Jamaican and Grenadian parents, she was instilled with a love of learning and a value for education. After leaving the classroom, Jemila began organizing in Atlanta on the Stacey Abrams campaign, then was a Field Director for a Texas Congressional Race. Her belief in the power of intentional leadership, teaching with humility, and building diverse teams drove her to join Organizing Corps 2020 where she trained coaches to prepare field organizers for the 2020 elections. Now, with NDTC, Jemila combines her love of teaching and training with her passion to engage those marginalized from political work. Jemila holds a BA in Sociology from Howard University and in her free time enjoys practicing yoga, playing soccer, volunteering, creating black-inspired art, and relaxing with her family and vizsla, Shabba.
